Catching up on biking...
Third day with a bike, third ride in the park. So far, so good... Adding an extra loop each day. Today's ride was 11.76 miles in 51 minutes.

Spinning the Bike :)
The first officially recorded spin - two loops of Prospect Park and change.
Click to enlarge. Garmin Connect details are here. Is a 4 min/mi average good or bad? I bet it is quite bad... but not bad enough for a second ride :)

Some reading on performace and calories...
A simple calculator (for which I am doubtful):
Has some formulas that I will have to check more closely in other places.
Seems like VO2max is an important parameter in how one burns calories...
http://www.brianmac.co.uk/vo2max.htm#vo2 seems like a nice in-depth discussion.

I got my first bike today... Specialized Allez Compact 2009! Took it for a spin in Prospect Park and wow! Seasoned riders will probably laugh at me, but keep in mind - this is my first ever ride on a road bike! It seems almost certain that I will get addicted. And of course after Sunday's hike my GPS was dead, so no stats...

Support my friend Vladimir!
My long-time good friend Vladimir Kiriansky has set to compete in Big Kahuna Half Ironman Triathlon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. Check out his page and support his cause!
Good luck, Vladimir!
The New Beginning
This is where I plan to blog about my exercise schedule, goals, and progress I make. The ultimate goal is an Ironman Triathlon, and the date has not been set yet. Some more intermediate goals will be published soon! This was mainly inspired by a two week Slim & Strong class with Ariane Hundt, for which you can read here.
Thank you for following, and I appreciate your comments!
